Selling Your Junk Or Unwanted Car Or Truck

Selling your junk or unwanted vehicle is an excellent way to get some cash from the car and get it out of the driveway. There are several ways you can go about getting rid of an unwanted vehicle, but some are easier than others.

Sell Your Car to a Salvage Yard

The most common way people get an unwanted or junk car out of the driveway is to call the local salvage yard or auto recycler and have them come and get the car. The salvage yard will make an offer on the vehicle, and you will have to decide if it is enough or not.

If you accept the offer from the salvage yard, they will haul the car away for you and, in most cases, pay you cash for the car on the spot. The salvage yard will sell the parts that still work to recover their costs and make a small profit.

Sell To a Scrap Service

There are a lot of services that advertise all over town that they pay cash for junk cars, and most of them are legit, but the price they pay may be far lower then you want to sell the vehicle for. Many times the scrap services will sell the car to a salvage yard or strip the parts and sell the body of the vehicle to a metal recycler to make their money back.

If you are going to sell your unwanted or junk car to one of these services, make sure they are paying in cash and that they are going to remove the vehicle right away. You may also want to call several different services and see who will offer you the most for the car. You may find that if one scrap service wants the car, they may be willing to pay more than the other guys to get the business themself.

Sell Your Car to a Rebuilder

Some people buy cars to fix, and even if you think your car is junk, a rebuilder may buy the vehicle from you and replace the parts that are damaged then sell the vehicle as a running vehicle. In many cases, these rebuilders have access to many used parts from other cars they purchased from a salvage yard that they will use to repair your junk car.

Once the car is mechanically sound, they can sell it for a profit and then start looking for the next car to buy, fix and sell. Auto rebuilders are going to try and buy the car cheap, but many times they will still pay more than a salvage yard or recycler.
